The number of dengue-related deaths recorded in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 75, according to the National Dengue Control Unit.
The country has reported a total of 98,616 dengue cases, with a recorded mortality rate of 0.076%. The Western Province accounts for 52.62% of all reported cases, while the Southern Province has recorded the second-highest number, with 14,209 cases.
At district level, Gampaha has recorded the highest number of cases at 20,917, followed by Colombo with 19,435 and Kandy with 7,410.
The highest monthly number of cases was reported in July, with 29,964 cases. A further 21,533 cases were reported in June and 10,155 in August. So far in September, 3,125 cases have been recorded.
Health authorities have identified 34 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas as high-risk zones for dengue and are urging the public to take immediate action to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and maintain clean surroundings.
