Delays in granting approval for maize imports could lead to higher chicken meat and egg prices during the upcoming festive season, according to the All Island Poultry Association of Sri Lanka.
Association President Ajith Gunasekara said the use of rice as a substitute for maize in poultry feed has resulted in a significant decline in chicken meat and egg production.
He further stated that around 20% of small-scale poultry producers have already left the industry due to the severe shortage of maize.
