The Opposition is scheduled to submit a no-confidence motion against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne in Parliament today (9).
The motion has reportedly been drafted based on 49 allegations against the Speaker.
The Opposition alleges that the Speaker has handled parliamentary proceedings in a biased and undemocratic manner, raising concerns about his suitability for the position.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has also alleged that the Speaker rejected privilege questions and motions previously submitted by the party without providing reasonable grounds.
The signing of the motion began yesterday (8) at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, with Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa placing the first signature.
SJB MP Ajith P. Perera said the motion, signed by Opposition MPs, would be handed over to the Secretary-General of Parliament today.
