The Department of Motor Traffic has urged vehicle owners to follow the proper procedures for transferring vehicle ownership and refrain from selling vehicles using “open documents.”
Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, retired Air Vice Marshal Thushara Indunil Fernando, said both the seller and the buyer must sign the MTA 6 form and submit the relevant copy to the Department of Motor Traffic.
He explained that the measure aims to prevent illegal activities involving vehicles and protect the public from fraud.
The Department also emphasized the importance of following the official ownership transfer process to prevent vehicles from being misused for illegal activities.
