The Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament today (8) with amendments and without a vote.
The amendments aim to address legal, interpretational, administrative and technical issues identified in implementing the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023.
They also seek to resolve discrepancies between the Sinhala and English versions of the Act, address issues relating to the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, improve the administrative functions of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), and streamline the submission of asset and liability declarations through a centralized electronic system.
According to a statement, the amendments are expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s legal and institutional framework for combating corruption and support the effective, transparent and accountable implementation of the Anti-Corruption Act.
