The Association of Creators and Publishers of Sri Lanka (ACPOSL) has temporarily suspended all licensing activities following concerns and criticism raised by stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
In a statement issued on October 12, ACPOSL said its board had decided to suspend the activities until its Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for November 2026.
The association said the decision followed feedback received from stakeholders across the entertainment industry over the past few weeks. It also apologised for any inconvenience caused and expressed regret over statements made at press events that may have offended or hurt industry stakeholders.
ACPOSL said it would begin a structured series of consultations with industry representatives to review and revise its proposed licensing framework and associated fees.
The consultations will focus on addressing stakeholders’ concerns and developing a framework that considers the interests of all parties involved. The revised framework will then be presented to ACPOSL members at the November AGM for consideration.
Subject to the necessary approvals and procedures, the association intends to publish the revised framework in the Gazette.
ACPOSL said its objective was to establish a fairer, more transparent and sustainable system for creators, authors and publishers while supporting the wider entertainment industry.
The association also clarified that the temporary suspension would not affect its existing rights, remedies or legal position.
ACPOSL called on creators, publishers, musicians, event organisers, venue operators and other stakeholders to continue engaging in the consultation process as it works to rebuild confidence in the initiative.
