Heavy Rain Causes Flooding and Traffic Congestion Across Colombo

October 22, 2026

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several parts of Colombo, resulting in severe traffic congestion and disrupting vehicle movement along key roads.

Police said several roads had been inundated following the downpour, causing significant delays for commuters.

Affected areas include Armour Street–Barber Junction within the Grandpass Police Division and the area near Jethawana Temple, where flooding has led to heavy traffic congestion. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid delays.

Flooding has also been reported along a section of Sangharaja Mawatha, with drivers urged to seek alternative routes where possible.

Meanwhile, roads in the Maligawatte Cemetery area have also been submerged, affecting access to and from Colombo.

Police have advised motorists travelling into or out of the city to plan their journeys carefully and use alternative routes where necessary.
