Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed head coach of the Mumbai Indians for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, replacing Sri Lankan cricket legend Mahela Jayawardene.
According to a report by India Today, Pollard, who previously served as the franchise’s batting coach, has been promoted to the top coaching position, extending his long-standing association with the five-time IPL champions.
Pollard represented the Mumbai Indians as a player for 13 seasons before transitioning into a coaching role following his retirement from IPL cricket.
He will now lead the team’s preparations for the 2027 season, marking a new chapter for the franchise.
Jayawardene stepped down from the position on October 17, ending his decade-long association with the Mumbai Indians. During his tenure as head coach, the team won three IPL titles, in 2017, 2019 and 2020.
