The Ministry of Agriculture says farmers will receive increased cultivation subsidies for 13 crops, including paddy, from this week.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne said the subsidy would be increased from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 60,000 per hectare, covering a maximum of two hectares.
He also said arrangements had been made to provide subsidies to farmers cultivating other crops on land previously used for paddy cultivation, who were not eligible for such assistance earlier.
