Award-Winning Lyricist Rambukan Siddhartha Thero Passes Away

Award-winning lyricist and writer Venerable Rambukan Siddhartha Thero has passed away at the age of 76.

He passed away while receiving treatment at a hospital following an illness.

Venerable Rambukan Siddhartha Thero made a significant contribution to Sri Lankan music and song literature, writing lyrics for numerous popular songs, including Buddhist devotional songs and works covering a wide range of themes.

Among his well-known works are “La Dalu Bopath,” “Me Ira Chanda Yata,” “Sanda Tharu Mal,” “Budha Hamuduruwo Apito Dikanathi,” “Senehasa Pudha,” “Budha Bana Esuwa,” “Me Prema Katha,” “Awwata Vaishawata Huru Munidunye,” “Veherak Naga,” “Pansale Palliyade” and “Siyaka Ayu Laba.”

Born on May 22, 1950, in the Rambukana area of Deniyaya, he received his primary education at Weliwa Buddhist Mixed School in Morawaka before pursuing higher education at Sunethradevi Pirivena in Papiliyana.

His passing marks the loss of a respected figure who made a lasting contribution to Sri Lankan music and Buddhist song literature.
