The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for Sri Lanka to sign the United Nations Convention against Cybercrimes (UNCC).
The convention was adopted at the 55th main session of the United Nations General Assembly in December 2024, with the objective of addressing and finding solutions to critical global cybercrime challenges.
By joining the convention, Sri Lanka aims to enhance its ability to prevent and combat cybercrimes, strengthen international cooperation, recover illicit assets, protect witnesses and victims, and access technological assistance and capacity-building support.
The proposal was presented to the Cabinet jointly by the President in his capacity as the Minister of Digital Economy, along with the Minister of Justice and National Integration and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism.
Accordingly, Cabinet approval has been granted for Sri Lanka to sign the convention.
