The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the implementation of the National Cyber Protection Strategy of Sri Lanka – 2025 to 2029, a forward-looking framework designed to enhance the country’s cybersecurity resilience over the next five years.
The strategy was developed by the Sri Lanka Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) with technical assistance from the World Bank, and builds upon the foundation laid by the first national cyber protection strategy, implemented from 2019 to 2023.
Focusing exclusively on the civilian cybersecurity sector, the updated strategy is structured around six core pillars:
-
Upgrading the legal and regulatory framework
-
Enhancing public awareness and knowledge
-
Improving cybersecurity readiness
-
Strengthening incident response capabilities
-
Fostering national and international cooperation
-
Ensuring institutional development and capacity-building
The proposal was submitted by the President, in his capacity as the Minister of Digital Economy, highlighting the government’s commitment to safeguarding digital infrastructure and promoting a secure digital ecosystem for citizens, businesses, and institutions.
The new strategy is expected to play a critical role in mitigating cyber threats, supporting digital transformation, and reinforcing Sri Lanka’s global partnerships in the area of cybersecurity.
