The Judicial Service Commission has announced the transfer of Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage to the position of Moratuwa District Judge, effective January 1, 2025, according to Mawbima newspaper.
In the wake of this transfer, Fort Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali has been appointed as the new Colombo Chief Magistrate. Additionally, the Mount Lavinia Magistrate will fill the vacancy at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
This transfer comes after Thilina Gamage submitted a written request to the Judicial Service Commission, seeking the appointment of another magistrate to handle a high-profile case involving an alleged bribe of Rs. 8 million. The case involves Salochana Gamage, a former Western Provincial Council member, who is currently in remand custody. Thilina Gamage cited a conflict of interest, as Salochana Gamage is his sibling.
