Ellen DeGeneres Makes First Public Appearance in UK After Relocating Due to Trump’s Return to Power

Popular American television personality Ellen DeGeneres has made her first public appearance in the United Kingdom after relocating from the United States, following the re-election of Donald Trump as U.S. President.

DeGeneres, who has been a prominent figure in American comedy and talk shows for over three decades, revealed that she and her wife, actress Portia de Rossi, chose to leave the U.S. in favor of a quieter life in the UK. The couple is now reportedly based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the move, DeGeneres stated that life in Britain has been far more peaceful and fulfilling. She also disclosed that she and Portia are even considering renewing their vows in the UK due to rising concerns in the U.S. over LGBTQ+ rights, particularly the potential rollback of same-sex marriage protections.

“The United States has increasingly become a place where people are afraid to be themselves,” DeGeneres said, emphasizing the anxiety felt by many in the LGBTQ+ community amid shifting political dynamics.

While she originally intended to spend only three to four months a year in the UK, the 67-year-old star now says the couple has decided to make it a more permanent move, citing political and personal reasons. She directly attributed the decision to former President Trump’s political resurgence.

Throughout her career, Ellen DeGeneres earned widespread acclaim and numerous awards—including Oscars, Grammys, and Emmys—for her influential work in entertainment. However, she has now chosen a new chapter abroad, prioritizing stability and freedom over fame.
