The Department of Meteorology warns that showery conditions are likely to intensify over the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the districts of Galle, Matara, Nuwara-Eliya, and Kandy in the coming days, due to the active southwest monsoon.
According to the latest weather forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected intermittently today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, along with Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in parts of the Sabaragamuwa province, as well as in Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara districts. A few showers may also occur in the North-Central province and in the Mannar, Hambantota, and Matale districts.
Additionally, strong winds ranging between 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The public is kindly advised to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
