The European Union has allocated €2.6 million in funding for a new initiative aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and civic participation in Sri Lanka.
The programme, titled “Rise Together,” will be implemented by World Vision and the SAFE Foundation Sri Lanka. It seeks to strengthen civil society while promoting human rights, inclusion, and accountable governance.
Over a three-year period, the project will support 50 civil society organisations by providing training and resources. It will also engage around 250 government institutions, policymakers, and social activists.
Commenting on the initiative, Johann Hesse, Head of EU Cooperation in Sri Lanka, said the programme reflects the EU’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable development through strong partnerships with civil society.
