The Ministry of Finance Sri Lanka is set to make a special statement in Parliament regarding the reported misplacement of US$2.5 million.
According to ministry sources, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha Fernando is expected to present the statement on May 5, 2026.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Harshana Suriyapperuma was scheduled to appear before the Committee on Public Finance Sri Lanka today (30) to provide clarification on the matter.
The appearance was requested by Committee Chairman Harsha de Silva, with plans to question the Secretary and other senior officials regarding the incident.
However, it had earlier been reported that the Treasury Secretary had informed the committee in writing that he would be unable to attend the session.
Responding to this, Deputy Minister of Mass Media Kaushalya Ariyaratne stated that the Secretary had not refused to appear, clarifying the situation amid ongoing developments.
