Former UNP Deputy Leader MP Ravi Karunanayake has warned that increasing fuel prices will not achieve the intended objective of reducing consumption.
Speaking to the media, he said the government must carefully consider the impact of such price hikes on both the public sector and ordinary citizens.
He noted that while the increase appears to be aimed at discouraging fuel use, it is not the highest consumers who are most affected, but the general public.
Karunanayake pointed out that rising prices of kerosene and diesel place a heavy burden on people, particularly by increasing the cost of transportation and essential services, ultimately impacting everyday life.
