GMOA Launches 48-Hour Nationwide Strike Over Internship Dispute

April 9, 2026

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has commenced a 48-hour nationwide token strike from 8:00 a.m. today (09).

The trade union action has been launched in protest against the Health Ministry’s decision to grant postgraduate internships allegedly in violation of agreed conditions.

In a statement, the GMOA said it had already initiated several trade union actions in response to attempts to politicize the transfer process of doctors.

The union noted that a discussion with the Minister of Health had been scheduled for today with the intervention of the President, during which it was agreed to suspend the transfer list of post-intern doctors until the conclusion of talks.

However, the GMOA claims that the Health Ministry proceeded to publish the transfer list despite the agreement.

The association warned that further action may be taken depending on the outcome of discussions.
