The Government has allocated Rs. 15 billion for a diesel subsidy in October as part of a three-month relief package aimed at protecting consumers from rising global fuel prices amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The subsidy will apply to auto diesel and industrial diesel, with a total of Rs. 40.65 billion allocated for the three-month period from October to December.
Cabinet approval has been granted for a proposal submitted by the President to provide the necessary funding for the subsidy.
Of the total allocation, Rs. 15 billion will be provided in October, followed by Rs. 13.5 billion in November and Rs. 12.15 billion in December.
The Government said the measure is intended to prevent domestic fuel prices from increasing in line with international market prices and to keep fuel costs at an affordable level for consumers.
The three-month subsidy is expected to ease the impact of higher global fuel prices on the public while helping maintain domestic diesel prices at manageable levels.
