The suspected drug haul recently seized in Weligama has been confirmed as Mephedrone following testing by the government analyst.
Southern Province DIG Kithsiri Jayalath stated that this is the first time this type of drug has been reported by the government analyst. He also noted that the report indicates Mephedrone is more dangerous than other drugs, including ‘Ice’.
The drugs were discovered during a police raid on a location suspected of being used to manufacture Ice in the Weligama area.
During the raid conducted last week (21), an 18-year-old Maltese national was arrested. Police also seized materials believed to be used in the production of Ice.
