Government Ensures Sufficient Insulin Stocks for the Next Four Months, Minister Says

Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa has assured the public that there are sufficient stocks of insulin in the country to last for the next four months.

Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing on April 22, Dr. Jayatissa urged the public not to be unduly concerned about insulin shortages. He confirmed that there is enough insulin available in the country to meet demand until September of this year.

The Minister emphasized that the government is actively working to maintain medicine stocks for a period of four to six months to avoid any future shortages nationwide.

Dr. Jayatissa acknowledged that occasional shortages of certain medicines have occurred over the past two years, citing issues from suppliers as one of the contributing factors. However, he reassured the public that discussions are ongoing with several countries to address these supply challenges and prevent future disruptions.
