Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, addressed Parliament today (19) regarding the fatal shooting at the Aluthkade Court Complex, which resulted in the death of notorious drug trafficker and organized crime figure “Ganemulla Sanjeewa.”
Minister Jayatissa stated that while the government has already implemented various measures to tackle underworld crime, certain actions cannot be publicly disclosed in Parliament.
During the session, opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekara highlighted that the assailant had disguised himself as a lawyer to carry out the attack. He also pointed out another violent incident in Middeniya last night, where two lives, including that of a child, were lost in a separate shooting.
“This is a serious national security concern,” Jayasekara warned.
In response, Minister Jayatissa assured Parliament:
“The government takes full responsibility for curbing underworld activities. We have already taken several steps. It is undeniable that organized crime, black money, and drug trafficking are deeply linked to these incidents. Some perpetrators are even operating from outside Sri Lanka. However, we will not allow the underworld to continue unchecked.”
