The Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs has announced that strict legal action will be taken against individuals involved in misconduct or assaults targeting public officials.
The announcement follows a recent incident in which a close associate of a former Member of Parliament allegedly attempted to assault an officer of the Department of Wildlife Conservation at the Elephant Sanctuary in Puttalam.
Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, stated that the official was carrying out his duties when the suspect reportedly tried to physically attack him and even attempted to seize his service firearm.
In response, the Ministry has pledged to closely monitor incidents involving violence, harassment, or obstruction of public servants across the country.
Minister Abeyratne stressed that no exceptions will be made, and that the government will ensure that anyone who endangers or interferes with the duties of state officials will face the full force of the law.
