Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa emphasized the urgent need to address the ongoing issues in the supply of medicines, urging key institutions to take responsibility for ensuring the continuous delivery of quality medicines to the public. He called on the National Medicine Regulatory Authority (NMRA), State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC), State Pharmaceuticals Manufacturing Corporation (SPMC), and Medical Supplies Division (MSD) to collaborate and streamline their efforts.
During a meeting with officials, Minister Jayatissa stressed that the government is prepared to introduce necessary changes and amend laws to improve the functioning of these institutions. He further highlighted that the government’s primary focus is to strengthen Sri Lanka’s primary health care system.
“We aim to implement a policy and action plan that remains consistent regardless of changes in government or ministers. What we need is a national policy and a sustainable program that ensures quality transformation in the health sector,” he said, reaffirming that strengthening the primary health care system will be the top priority in the coming decade.
