The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers at times today (14) in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is possible in some areas.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur in a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m.
Meanwhile, strong winds of around 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the North-Central, North-Western, Central and Southern Provinces and in the Mannar District.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
