Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Forecast Across Several Provinces

The Department of Meteorology has forecast widespread showers and strong winds across several parts of the country today (03), with heavy rainfall expected in parts of the Central Highlands.

According to the Department, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and Southern provinces, where cloudy skies are expected to prevail throughout the day.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Several spells of showers are also expected in the Western, North Western and North Central provinces.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in the Mullaitivu District after 2.00 p.m.

The Department further stated that strong winds of 40–50 km/h can be expected at times over the North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western provinces.

The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary strong winds, heavy rainfall and lightning associated with thundershowers.
