The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) says it has found no evidence of ill-treatment of inmates transferred to other prisons following the recent clash at the Negombo Prison.
HRCSL Commissioner Attorney-at-Law Nimal Punchihewa said the conclusion was based on observations made during inspections carried out by the Commission.
Officials from the HRCSL have so far visited the Boossa, Angunakolapelessa and Welikada prisons, where inmates transferred from Negombo Prison are currently being held.
The Commission also met with inmates receiving treatment in hospital to discuss their concerns and assess their condition.
The HRCSL said inspections of other prisons accommodating transferred inmates will continue in the coming days as part of its ongoing monitoring process.
