Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has been remanded until April 10, following a ruling by Matara Magistrate Aruna Buddhadasa today (April 3).
The Matara Magistrate’s Court had previously issued warrants on February 28 for the arrest of Tennakoon and seven others in connection with the December 31, 2023, shooting near a hotel in Weligama, which led to the death of a Colombo Crime Division officer.
After evading arrest for 20 days, Tennakoon surrendered to the court on March 19 through a motion.
