Priyantha Weerasooriya, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Attorney-at-Law, has instructed the implementation of a comprehensive security plan to ensure the safety of tourists currently staying in the country.
A statement issued by the Sri Lanka Police Media Division said all police stations have been directed to develop and implement a security plan covering a 24-hour period.
Accordingly, the IGP has instructed officers to ensure the protection of foreign nationals in Sri Lanka, including safeguarding their property, places of residence, tourist attractions, tourist destinations, residential buildings and religious sites.
The directive also emphasizes the need to ensure the safety of both individuals and property at religious centers.
In addition, the IGP has ordered that enhanced security arrangements be maintained until further notice to protect embassies, high commissions, official residences and other related diplomatic institutions and locations.
