India and Sri Lanka Strengthen Maritime Cooperation with SLINEX 24

The 2024 edition of the bilateral naval exercise SLINEX 24 was conducted from December 17 to 20 at Visakhapatnam, hosted by the Indian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command.

Held in two phases, the Harbour Phase (December 17–18) focused on professional exchanges and social interactions, while the Sea Phase (December 19–20) featured joint exercises, including gun firings, communication drills, seamanship and navigation evolutions, and helicopter operations.

The Indian Navy was represented by INS Sumitra and a Special Forces team, while the Sri Lankan Navy participated with SLNS Sayura, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, and their Special Forces team.

Since its inception in 2005, SLINEX has been a cornerstone of India-Sri Lanka naval collaboration. This year’s exercise further strengthened maritime cooperation and bolstered regional security, aligning with India’s SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region) vision for a rule-based maritime domain.
