Japanese Ambassador Invites President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to Japan

 President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with Japan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mr. Akio Isomata, at the Presidential Secretariat this morning, where the Ambassador officially invited him to visit Japan, the President’s Media Division (PMD) reported.

During the meeting, Ambassador Isomata expressed appreciation for the new government’s policy direction and discussed Japan’s efforts to include Sri Lanka in its recently launched security cooperation assistance program.

Extensive discussions were also held on the joint Japan-Switzerland-South Africa initiative aimed at fostering national reconciliation in the northern communities affected by the 30-year conflict. Additionally, both parties reviewed the current status of Japanese investments in Sri Lanka.

Key topics included the progress of digital economic projects and airport investments, with the Ambassador reaffirming Japan’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s Digital Transformation Program. Japan also intends to invest in port and aviation-related projects, as well as digitalization initiatives in Sri Lanka, the PMD stated.

The meeting was attended by Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Affairs Dr. Duminda Hulangamuwa, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, First Secretary and Head of Economics and Development Cooperation Section Ohashi Kenji, and First Secretary and Head of Political Section Murata Shinichi.
