The Kap planting ceremony of the four Devalayas for this year’s Kandy Esala Perahera Festival was held this morning at the auspicious time of 6.17 a.m.
The ceremony was held with the participation of the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa and the Basnayake Nilames of the four Devalayas.
The first Kumbal Perahera of this year’s Esala Perahera Festival is scheduled to take to the streets of Kandy on August 18.
The first Randoli Perahera will begin on August 23 and continue for five days.
The final Randoli Perahera, known as the Maha Randoli Perahera, is scheduled to be held on August 27, coinciding with the Nikini Full Moon Poya Day.
