A special religious ceremony was held under the patronage of Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith to bless and officially open what is described as the largest statue of Jesus in Sri Lanka.
The 60-foot-tall statue, located at the Supuwan Arana premises in Seeduwa, was unveiled for public veneration and worship following the blessing ceremony.
Constructed from white iron, the statue was blessed and declared open by Cardinal Ranjith during the event.
The monument was designed and built based on an artistic concept by Father Daryl, the curator of Supuwan Arana.
The ceremony was attended by a large gathering of clergy members and Catholic devotees who participated in the religious observances.
