The Cabinet Spokesperson announced that the Mahanayake Theros have requested that May 30 be declared Vesak Poya Day.
In line with the proposed observances, Vesak Week is expected to be declared from May 27 to June 2.
Meanwhile, May 31, which falls on a Sunday, has been designated as the public holiday following Vesak, the Cabinet Spokesperson added.
