Middle East Conflict Disrupts International Parcel Shipments from Sri Lanka

March 4, 2026

Ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted international parcel shipments from Sri Lanka, according to Ruwan Sathkumara.

Speaking on Tuesday (3), the Postmaster General said the large number of flight cancellations to Middle Eastern destinations has directly affected international postal operations, causing delays and obstacles in dispatching parcels to several countries.

He noted that a number of consignments collected last Friday have not yet been dispatched due to cancelled flights and operational restrictions affecting the region.

Authorities have informed the public about the disruptions and are maintaining coordination with postal administrations in the affected countries to manage the situation.

Sathkumara expressed hope that postal services would return to normal once conditions stabilize. However, he warned that perishable or time-sensitive goods could face risks if delays continue.

He added that the disruptions are impacting not only Sri Lanka but also recipient countries that rely on international postal services linked through Middle Eastern transit routes.
