MP Ravi Karunanayake Questions Central Bank’s Accountability to Parliament

April 8, 2026

Opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake has alleged that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has failed to respond to 11 questions raised by Members of Parliament.

Speaking on the matter, he questioned whether the Central Bank, as a key state institution, is accountable to Parliament.

“Isn’t the Central Bank an institution that is accountable to Parliament?” he asked, raising concerns over transparency and responsiveness.

The remarks come amid growing scrutiny over the role and accountability of key financial institutions in addressing parliamentary inquiries.
