New Guidelines Issued to Reduce Fuel and Electricity Usage

March 31, 2026

The Commissioner General of Essential Services has issued a series of guidelines to government institutions and relevant authorities on the efficient use of fuel and electricity.

According to the directive, all air conditioning units in government and statutory institutions must be switched off by 3:00 p.m. Private sector offices have also been encouraged to adopt the same practice.

In addition, all electric billboards and advertising screens are required to be turned off after 8:00 p.m.

Local authorities have been instructed to manage street lighting by switching off lights between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., where feasible.

The guidelines also state that large-scale outdoor events and musical shows should be conducted without drawing power from the national grid.

Officials say these measures are aimed at conserving energy amid ongoing challenges related to fuel and electricity supply.
