Oil Anointing Ritual Observed for Sinhala and Tamil New Year

The auspicious time for the oil anointing ritual of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was observed at 6:55 a.m. today.

According to traditional customs, devotees were required to dress in green attire and face East while performing the ritual, which includes placing Kohomba leaves on the head and Kolon leaves under the feet, followed by a cleansing bath after applying oil and herbal mixtures.

The State Oil Anointing Ceremony is currently being held at the Sri Maha Natha Devalaya within the Sri Dalada Maligawa complex in Kandy.
