One-hour power cuts will continue across Sri Lanka today (20) following the shutdown of all three generating units at the Lakvijaya Power Plant in Norochcholai.
The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said yesterday (19) that it had approved the power cuts following a request from the National System Operator (NSO).
Accordingly, power cuts are scheduled between 4.30 p.m. and 9.00 p.m., with the country divided into four zones. Hospitals and locations providing essential services will be exempt from the interruptions.
All three generating units at the Lakvijaya Power Plant remain out of operation following the islandwide power outage last Saturday.
To manage the available electricity supply, the NSO decided to introduce daily one-hour power cuts. Similar interruptions were imposed across the country yesterday.
NSO Chief Executive Officer Buddhika Samarasekara said the same measures would also be necessary today and tomorrow (21).
