Opposition Boycotts Parliamentary Committees Over Appointment Dispute

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Ajith P. Perera announced that the opposition has collectively decided to boycott the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) and other parliamentary committees.

This decision arises from allegations of procedural violations in appointing members to these committees. Perera highlighted that the selection of the COPE Chairman, while presented as unanimous, was conducted exclusively by ruling party MPs, sidelining the opposition.

“The opposition strongly believes that the traditional procedures have been disregarded, and we cannot participate under such circumstances,” Perera stated.

As a result, opposition members have resolved not to engage in any parliamentary committees until the issue is addressed.
