Health officials have revealed that more than 1,000 children in Sri Lanka are diagnosed with cancer each year.
Dr. Buddhika Somawardhana, a specialist in blood cancer and bone marrow transplants at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, stated that 30% of these cases are leukemia, while 25% affect the central nervous system.
Annually, around 40,000 cancer cases are reported in the country, with approximately 4,000 being blood cancers. Dr. Somawardhana also highlighted that one-third of all cancers are preventable.
