Police say more than 2,000 people have been fined for violating seat belt regulations on Sri Lanka’s expressways.
The fines were issued during inspections conducted from the 19th up to today.
Police said nearly 1,000 passengers travelling on expressways were among those fined for failing to wear seat belts despite the vehicles being equipped with them.
The Expressway Transport Safety Division said vehicles are being continuously inspected at all expressway entry and exit points.
Police emphasized that vehicles without properly functioning seat belts will not be permitted to enter the expressways.
Special attention will also be given to passenger transport buses during the ongoing inspections.
