Over 8,500 Traffic Officers Deployed to Manage Festive Season Congestion

Sri Lanka Police have deployed more than 8,500 traffic officers to address the heavy congestion expected during the festive season. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manatunga, Director and Media Spokesperson for the Police Media Division, announced the intensified efforts to ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow.

Focus on Drunk Driving
SSP Manatunga highlighted that inspections are being carried out by the Highway Patrol Division and at highway entry points, with a primary focus on identifying and apprehending drunk drivers.

As part of these efforts, 251 drunk drivers faced legal action the day before yesterday.

Special Traffic Operation
This initiative is being implemented under the guidance of the Acting Inspector General of Police as part of a broader special traffic operation aimed at minimizing road accidents and maintaining public safety during the busy festive period.

Motorists are urged to cooperate with the police and prioritize safety during this time of heightened travel activity.
