Sri Lanka Police have introduced a dedicated WhatsApp number to enable the public to report reckless and dangerous driving incidents more efficiently.
Authorities stated that with the widespread use of social media, members of the public have increasingly been sharing video footage of traffic violations such as speeding, unsafe overtaking, riding on one wheel, and dangerous railway crossings.
Police noted that such public cooperation has already helped identify and apprehend a significant number of offenders.
To further streamline this process, a 24-hour WhatsApp hotline — 070-4755600 — has been launched under the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of traffic control and road safety.
The public is encouraged to submit video evidence along with details such as the date, location, and relevant police division where the incident occurred.
Police also urged citizens not to send fabricated or AI-generated content, emphasizing that genuine public support is essential to strengthen law enforcement and improve road safety.
