The Sri Lanka Police are taking steps to accelerate the process of obtaining Attorney General’s advice on case files where such advice has been delayed, through the introduction of a digital system.
Police said close coordination is being maintained with the Attorney General’s Department to expedite the process.
During 2025–2026, a total of 3,165 case files were referred to the Attorney General’s Department for advice.
According to the Police, advice has been received for 2,871 of these files, representing 90.71% of the total.
However, Attorney General’s advice is still pending for 294 case files, accounting for approximately 9.3% of the total.
The Police said the proposed digital system is expected to help streamline the process and speed up the review of case files where advice remains pending.
