Polling Cards Distribution Begins Ahead of Local Government Elections

Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara announced that official polling cards for the upcoming local government elections are scheduled to be handed over to the Department of Post today (April 16).

According to Sathkumara, April 20 has been designated as a special distribution day to ensure timely delivery of polling cards to households across the country.

“We are expecting to receive the official polling cards at the district level today. The cards must be delivered to all households by April 29,” he said. “Given the importance of these documents, April 20 will be a focused distribution day. Since these are official documents, recipients will be required to sign upon receipt. We kindly request that someone be at home to accept and sign for them.”

He further stated that any polling cards that remain undelivered by April 29 can be collected from the nearest post office upon presentation of valid identification.

Meanwhile, the delivery of reserved packets containing registered postal ballot papers to post offices was completed yesterday (April 15). Sathkumara confirmed that postal ballots pertaining to nine local government bodies across six districts have already been received by the postal service.

He added that over 70 percent of the registered postal ballot packets received thus far have already been successfully delivered.
