President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has warmly welcomed the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, describing it as a critical step toward regional stability and peace.
In an official statement, the President commended the leaders of both nations for choosing dialogue over conflict, stating, “The decision to replace guns with words before a conflagration broke out is a testament to their wisdom and statesmanship.”
He further noted, “An immediate ceasefire is not just an urgent need to spare innocent lives on both sides; it is also a necessary first step in achieving lasting peace and regional stability.”
Reaffirming Sri Lanka’s position as a neighbour and friend to both India and Pakistan, President Dissanayake expressed the country’s steadfast support for continued diplomatic engagement and reiterated Sri Lanka’s willingness to contribute to efforts aimed at securing regional peace.
