President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the afternoon of the 25th at UN Headquarters.
The Secretary-General warmly welcomed President Dissanayake upon his arrival, after which the two leaders engaged in a cordial discussion.
During the meeting, President Dissanayake briefed the Secretary-General on the progress of Sri Lanka’s new economic reform program and the government’s broader initiatives aimed at advancing the country socially and politically.
Secretary-General Guterres commended the Sri Lankan government’s progressive agenda and assured that the United Nations fully supports these efforts.
Also present at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Chief Justice, President’s Counsel Jayantha Jayasuriya, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
