President Holds Talks to Boost Tax Revenue and Digitalisation at Inland Revenue Department

A discussion between Anura Kumara Dissanayake and officials of the Inland Revenue Department Sri Lanka was held yesterday afternoon (27) at the Presidential Secretariat.

According to the President’s Media Division, the meeting focused on strengthening the department’s capacity, including measures to broaden tax revenue, improve tax compliance, and recover outstanding tax arrears. Progress achieved by the department so far in 2026 was also reviewed.

Extensive discussions were held on institutional restructuring and digitalisation efforts required to meet these objectives. Particular attention was given to the introduction of a national e-invoicing system and the necessary legal provisions.

President Dissanayake instructed officials to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The meeting was attended by Anil Jayantha Fernando, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning; Nishantha Jayaweera, Deputy Minister of Economic Development; Secretary to the President Nandika Sanath Kumanayake; Commissioner General of Inland Revenue R.P.H. Fernando; and several senior officials.
